RESUMO

OBJETIVO: Avahar o mercado de trabalho do cirurgiáo-dentista nas diferentes especialidades na Regiáo Sudeste do Brasil, além de avaliar a relaçáo cirurgiáo-dentista/habitante e especialista/ habitante, visando melhorar a compreensáo dos rumos da profissáo, direcionando a atuaçáo profissional. MATERIAIS E METODOS: Foram coletados dados do Conselho Federal de Odontologia e do Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística. RESULTADOS: Todos os estados da Regiáo Sudeste do país apresentam índices maiores (menor proporçáo entre habitantes por cirurgiáo-dentista) que o recomendado pela Organizaçáo Mundial de Saúde (1:1.500). Esta regiáo concentra 56,16% do total de especialistas de todo o Brasil, englobando as diferentes áreas reconhecidas pelo Conselho Federal de Odontologia. CONCLUSáO: O mercado de trabalho para os especialistas da Regiáo Sudeste das áreas de prótese bucomaxilofacial, odontogeriatria, patologia bucal, odontologia do trabalho e estomatologia apresenta-se com meihor proporçáo cirurgiáo-dentista/habitante. A maioria dos especialistas no Brasil pertence ao genero feminino. DESCRITORES: mercado de trabalho; exercício profissional; assistencia odontológica; educaçáo em odontologia.

ABSTRACT

To evaluate the job market for dental surgeons, within their different specialties, in the Southeast region of Brazil, in addition to evaluating the dental surgeon/inhabitant and specialist/ inhabitant ratios. The study aims to better understand the trends in this profession, and also suggests fields of professional activity. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Data was collected from the Brazilian National Council of Odontology and the Brazilian National Institute of Geography and Statistics. RESULTS: All of Southeast region states of Brazil have higher professionals/ inhabitants' ratio levels than recommended by the World Health Organization (1:1,500). That region concentrate 56.16% of all specialists in Brazil, encompassing the different specialties recognized by the Brazilian National Council of Dentistry. CONCLUSION: The job market for specialists in this region that presents less competition are: Bucofaxilofacial, Prosthetics, Odontogeriatrics, Mouth Pathology, Workplace Dentistry and Stomatology areas.
