RESUMEN

El objetivo de este trabajo fue describir las erosiones dentarias y de los materiales dentales en pacientes bulímicos y anoréxicos purgativos. En 28 pacientes bulímicas y anoréxicas purgativas se registró el grado de las erosiones dentarias, su distribución y la que se observa en de las restauraciones presentes en sus bocas. Para valorar las erosiones dentarias se utilizó un índice de Erosión Dentaria (TWI) categorizándolas en tres niveles: leve, moderado y severo. A las restauraciones dentarias se las evaluó con un índice "ad hoc" (RWI). Se encontró que 32,1% tenía erosiones dentarias leves, 60,7% moderadas y 7,1% severas. En la determinación de la erosión en los materiales se observó una ligera, aunque estadísticamente significativa, diferencia entre las restauraciones confeccionadas con composites y con amalgama. SUMMARY

The aim of the present study was to describe some consequences of bulimic and purgative anorexy on the oral cavity. Erosion shown in dental elements and restorations was evaluated. Twenty eight bulimic and purgative-anorexic patients were studied, registering the degree and distribution of the dental erosion and the erosion of the restorations found in their mouths. To determine the degree of dental erosion, a Tooth wear Indes (TWI) was used and the results were categorized in three levels: light, moderate and severe. Dental restorations were evaluated with an ad hoc índex (RWI). As regards dental erosions the following prevalences were found: 32.1% light, 60.7% moderate and 7.1% severe. A slight but statistically significant difference between composites and amalgams (p<0.05) was observed. Key Words: bulimia, anorexy, dental erosion.
