RESUMEN

El tumor odontogénico de células escamosas (TOCE) es una neoplasia sumamente infrecuente, derivada de restos de la lámina dental o restos de Malassez. Esta lesión denoté una expresividad variable. Se presenta el caso de una mujer de 72 años con un aumento de volumen asintomático en el lado izquierdo del maxilar inferior con diagnóstico presuntivo de quiste residual y diagnóstico histopatológico de TOCE. Se discute y actualiza su presentación clínica, radiográfica y su tratamiento y se actualiza la información sobre la patología. Palabras clave: tumor odontogénico, TOCE, células escamosas.

SUMMARY

Squamous odontogenic tumor (SOT) is a very rare neoplasm that originates either from the dental bud or remnants of Malassez cells. This lesion may manifest its self in various ways. We report a case of a 72 year-old female with asymptomatic swelling in the lower maxillary region where a residual cyst was initially diagnosed but that revealed to be SOT after a histological study. The clinical and radiologic aspects and the treatment are discussed and information en the pathology is updated. Key Words: odontogenic tumor, SOT, squamous cell.
