Editorial: Renewal to a Dental Review Journal | |
The Japanese Association for Dental Science affiliates 21 active member societies and 9
approved member societies covering every field of dental basic and clinical sciences. These societies have separately
developed their activities and led the dentistry in Japan. JADS has introduced their latest scientific works to the
world by issuing the English journal titled "Dentistry in Japan" once a year. It has already reached 43 volumes. The
journals have been delivered to about 800 overseas facilities involving dental schools and associated organizations.
However, we feel it is not sufficient when we take into consideration the fact that many of the valuable biomaterials
and clinical techniques have been developed in Japan and widely accepted in the world. For further availability of
the journal in the world, JADS decided to entrust the international publisher, Elsevier, with the publication, promotion
and distribution. The primary contents of the Dentistry in Japan have so far been composed of original articles
contributed by the member societies. From the volume 44, the contents were changed to peer- reviewed review articles
mainly focused to the modern aspects of the dental sciences in Japan compared to the world. The title of the
journal was altered to "The Japanese Dental Science Review" and it is to be issued twice a year. It is supplied
by the forms of printed journal and online journal. Although alt the figures involving histological photographs appear
monochromatically in the printed journal, the reader can realize them with their original color in the online
journal. Owing to the mutual cooperation between JADS and Elsevier, it is expected that the journal will be more
widely distributed and more international. It is hoped that we will have many opportunities to share and discuss the
updated basic and clinical aspects with many foreign researchers and dentists through the medium of this new journal.
