Resumen

Las maloclusiones dentales son un problema importante de salud pública, éstas producen alteraciones estéticas, nutricionales, causan dolor y generalmente requieren tratamientos costosos. El objetivo de este trabajo fue el de determinar la prevalencia de mordida cruzada posterior relacionada con el hábito de succión digital. Se evaluaron 500 pacientes identificándose una prevalencia de mordida cruzada de 12.2%, con una mayor proporción en menores con dentición mixta y en los de género femenino, no se encontró asociación significativa con el habito de succión digital.

Summary

The dental malocclusions are an important problem of public health, these produce aesthetic, nutritional alterations and cause pain generally they need costly treatments. The aim of this work was of determining the prevalence of posterior cross bite related to the habit of digital suction. 500 patients were evaluated and there being identified a prevalence of posterior cross bite of 12.2 %, with a major proportion in minors with mixed dentition and those of feminine genre, one did not find significant association with the habit of digital suction.
