ABSTRACT

The lymphoepithelial cyst (LC) of the mouth is a rare lesion that presents as a small, asymptomatic, well-circumscribed, yellowish elevated nodule, usually located in the floor of the mouth or in the ventral or posterolateral surface of the tongue. It's lined by a stratified squamous epithelium surrounded by lymphoid tissue. The pathogenesis of this condition is uncertain, although several theories have been proposed. Some authors suggested that ectopic foci of glandular epithelium become entrapped within nodal tissue and may proliferate ultimately to form a cyst. However, others authors suggested that the LC results from obstruction of crypts of otherwise normal oral tonsils. In this work, it is reported an uncommon case of oral lymphoepithelial cyst in soft palate, in a 34-year-old woman. Some aspects related to clinical presentation, etiopathogenesis and therapeutic management are discussed. Keywords: Lymphoepithelial cyst; Oral lymphoepithelial cyst; Soft palate.

RESUMO

O cisto linfoepitelial (CL) da boca è lesão rara, apresentando-se como pequeno nòdulo elevado de coloração branco-amarelada, assintomàtico e bem circunscrito, geralmente encontrado no assoalho da boca ou na superfìcie pòstero-lateral ou ventral da lìngua. E revestido por epitèlio pavimentoso estratificado, circundado por tecido linfòide. A patogênese desta condição è incerta, embora diversas teorias tenham sido propostas. Alguns autores sugeriram que o cisto linfoepitelial pode surgir das criptas amigdalianas ou do epitèlio da mucosa de superfìcie ou, ainda, do epitèlio de glândula salivar que ficou retido no tecido linfòide durante a embriogênese. Apresenta-se um caso incomum de cisto linfoepitelial localizado no palato mole, em paciente do sexo feminino, 34 anos de idade. Discutem-se adicionalmente aspectos relacionados à apresentação clìnica, etiopatogenia e conduta terapêutica. Palavras-chave: Cisto linfoepitelial; Cisto linfoepitelial bucal; Palato mole.
