ABSTRACT | |
We present an implant case with a marked defect of buccal alveolar ridge in the mandibular molar area that was functionally, esthetically and
hygienically restored with connective tissue graft. An impression for temporary restoration was taken immediately after the implant placement. The connective tissue
which was harvested from palatal mucosa was grafted onto the buccal alveolar ridge, and the temporary restoration with an appropriate emergence profile was placed at
the second-stage surgery. Soft tissue around the implant site was supported by the temporary restoration and the defect was recovered. After the complete healing of
the peri-implant tissue, final restoration which mimicked the subgingival morphology of the temporary restoration was placed. During a 3-year follow-up, the soft
tissue was clinically healthy, and no remarkable radiographic change was observed. Careful consideration for the properties of soft tissue is thought to be important
in achieving an optimal result in implant therapy. (The Shikwa Gakuho, 109 177- 184, 2009)
