ABSTRACT | |
Simultaneous double cancer is comparatively rare and difficult to treat. We report a case of a 42- year-old woman with simultaneous double
cancer located on the tongue and in the midway portion of the esophagus. The tongue cancer was classified as Stage IV A after several examinations. The mid-portion
esophageal cancer was found by gastric fiberscopy. After consultation with a gastroenterologic surgeon, we made a treatment plan. First, we performed radical surgery
for the tongue cancer, and then for the esophageal cancer. Bi-lateral neck dissection and tongue resection for tongue cancer was performed after chemotherapy, and the
esophageal cancer was resected by thoracotomy and laparotomy. Two more courses of chemotherapy were given after the operation. The patient is free from recurrence and
metastasis at about 2 years and 6 months after treatment.(The Shikwa Gakuho, 109 192-200, 2009)
