ABSTRACT
Hemangiopericytoma is a tumor derived from pericytes surrounding capillary blood vessels, and its development is relatively rare among vascular system tumors. We encountered a patient with hemangiopericytoma in whom the tumor extended from the cheek to infratemporal fossa and recurred twice. The patient underwent resection of a tumor in the right cheek at another facility in 1986, but felt mild tenderness and swelling in the right cheek in August 2001. Tumor recurrence was diagnosed, and tumorectomy was performed under general anesthesia at our department in November 2001. The postoperative course was favorable without complications, and the patient decided to discontinue outpatient follow-up. However, recurrence in the same region was noted in November 2007. The tumor could be resected together with surrounding normal tissue by combining an approach via the infratemporal fossa and oral approach by Weber's incision, which allowed straightforward intraoperative hemostasis.
